“FBI plan permits terrorist profiling”
►The PROPORTION of the newspaper that I read today was that The Justice Department is considering letting the FBI investigate Americans without any evidence of wrongdoing, relying instead on a terrorist profile that could single out Muslims, Arabs or other racial and ethnic groups. Law enforcement officials say the proposed policy would help them do exactly what Congress demanded after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: root out terrorists before they strike. Although President Bush has disavowed targeting suspects based on their race or ethnicity, the new rules would allow the FBI to consider those factors among a number of traits that could trigger a national security investigation. Currently, FBI agents need specific reasons – such as evidence or allegations that a law probably has been violated – to investigate U.S. citizens and legal residents. The new policy, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press, would let agents open preliminary terrorism investigations after mining public records and intelligence to build a profile of traits that, taken together, were deemed suspicious. Among the factors that could make someone the subject of an investigation are travel to regions of the world known for terrorist activity and access to weapons or military training, along with the person's race or ethnicity.

The article I read today is about The New Zealand pizza chain said Thursday it had struck a deal with Walter Scott, 24, to buy a deed to his soul, shortly after an online auction site that initially agreed to the sale withdrew it from the Internet because of complaints it was in bad taste.
Scott offered his soul on the TradeMe site on Wednesday, saying he had not found it to be much use.
"I can't see it, touch it or feel it, but I can sell it, so I'm going to palm it off to the highest bidder," Scott, 24, said on the sale site.
The auction attracted more than 32,000 hits and more than 100 bids before it was taken down.
TradeMe business manager Michael O'Donnell said the company had received an "overwhelming number of complaints from the TradeMe community."
"A lot of people felt it was offensive even though we thought it was there for good fun," he told The Associated Press. "So the compliance team pulled it."
He said the auction had also attracted many bogus bids -- while the last bid on the site was listed as $3,799, the last genuine bid was $456.
Rachael Allison, head of marketing for Hell Pizza, which has outlets across New Zealand and trades on a naughty image, said the company contacted Scott shortly after the auction was removed and offered him $3,800.
"The soul belongs to Hell, there is simply no better place for it," Allison told The Associated Press. "He was pretty delighted."
Today in the union tribune, I read that Investigators have found the body of a 12-year-old Vermont girl missing for a week in a case that led to separate sexual assault charges against her uncle and stepfather, state police announced Wednesday. Brooke Bennett's remains were found Wednesday afternoon in a fresh grave off a road in the town of Randolph, about 60 miles southeast of Burlington, Vermont. An autopsy will be conducted, but it appears to be foul play. Her uncle, Michael Jacques, was arrested Sunday on a charge of sexually assaulting another child, identified in a police affidavit as a relative of Jacques. That girl told police about her association with Brooke, Jacques and an alleged child sex ring. Information gathered in a search of Jacques home led police to the gravesite. An affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Burlington states that Jacques, 42, dropped Brooke off at a convenience store in Randolph on June 25. He told investigators that his niece was to be picked up by a friend later to visit a sick relative. The relative Jacques is accused of assaulting told detectives that he had been having sex with her since she was 9. She also told investigators she had a sexual encounter with Brooke's former stepfather, Ray Gagnon, in June 2007.
I think her uncle is crazy to do that because that’s nasty, they should give him more than life in prison like they did to Jeffery Dahmer.

French students murdered in 'frenzied attack'
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Two French students who were found stabbed to death in a burned-out London apartment were the victims of a "frenzied, brutal, horrific attack," police said Thursday, as they appealed for information about the case.
Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both 23, were bound and stabbed multiple times in the head, neck, torso, and back, said Mick Duthie, a detective with London's Metropolitan Police.
Britain's Press Association reported that the students had been tied up and tortured, suffering up to 250 injuries -- facts the police could not confirm.
The article I read today is about Houston police said the June 13 break-in was at least the seventh operation by a ring of smash-and-grab operators who steal large pickup trucks and crash them into storefronts to get at the ATM. They attach a chain to the back of the truck, wrap it around the ATM and yank the machine out of the store. The whole operation can take less than five minutes, and if the ATM has been recently replenished, the thieves can get away with tens of thousands of dollars — assuming they can figure out how to crack open the vault. 140 ATM thefts in North Texas alone, mainly in the Dallas area. Police say organized rings may have been at work there and in Houston, Atlanta, San Diego and Los Angeles; multiple thefts have also been reported in numerous other cities, from Hartford, Conn., to Detroit to Honolulu.
I think that they have smart crooks.

Today I read in the cnn news that a Betancourt, 46, met her daughter, Melanie Delloye, and son, Lorenzo Delloye-Betancourt, on the steps of a plane that had just arrived from France at a Colombian airport. The three tearfully clung together, hugging and kissing each other fervently before disappearing inside the plane. Her children, now adults, were accompanied on the plane by French Foreign Minister Bernard Kushner. Betancourt told reporters at the airport that her daughter, Melanie, and son, Lorenzo, looked "beautiful" and she was proud of them. Colombian Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said Betancourt will travel to Paris Thursday night .Hours after the military operation that freed 15 hostages, Colombian President Alvaro Urine urged peace by calling on leftist rebels to release all hostages. The Colombian military infiltrated the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia -- known as FARC for its initials in Spanish -- and deceived its members into giving up the hostages, including Betancourt, the country's defense ministry said.
I think that is very good that the Betancourt was free and able to go whit his family again and see them.
As the headline suggests, Angela Eversole, 34, sexually serviced Scheme Kenneth Novak, who paid for her services in part, with a $100 gas card, according to cops. The article I read today was about two French students who were found murdered. Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both 23, were bound and stabbed multiple times in the head, neck, torso, and back. The students had been tortured. Everyone that is working on the case were shocked and they said they have never seen nothing like that throughout there whole carrer.
My opinion- I think that this article is sad and I hope they found whoever did that to them.
Interesting Facts- Both the victims were graduate biochemistry students who were studying DNA.

The relative Jacques is accused of assaulting told detectives that he had been having sex with her since she was 9. She also told investigators she had a sexual encounter with Brooke's former stepfather, Ray Gagnon, in June 2007. According to the affidavit, the girl recounted how when she was 9 she found a note under her pillow that said she had been chosen to be in a program for sex called "Breckenridge." She was told that her "trainer" was Jacques. She told authorities that to graduate she had to attain a 75 percent on "how you perform."
According to the same affidavit, the girl said Jacques picked Brooke up on June 25 and told her they would be going to a party. The girl told police she understood Brooke would be "taken into the 'Breckenridge' program that day, and that she would have sex with adult males."
REFLECTION:I think that these men should be locked up for doing this to an young girl.Thats so sick and nasty why would someone want to do that to a poor little girl and she was 9 when she started thats all bad. I think thats messed up she didn't even live her life and i just wanna say if u don't want your kids take them to a foster home or some where not just any where or don't have kids at all ya dig.also never trust anyone with your child even if it is family u see what happened to this young girl here.

Britain's Press Association reported that the students had been tied up and tortured, suffering up to 250 injuries. Firefighters found the students' bodies Sunday night after responding to a fire at Bonomo's rented room on a quiet cul-de-sac in south London, police said. They initially believed the men died in the fire, but a post-mortem exam showed they died of the stab wounds. The fire was the result of an explosion. That’s really sad I guess you can never be safe.
