Northern border states join to fight tourism decline

Badly hit by declining tourism revenues, Mexico's northern border states are joining forces with Mexico's federal government in a plan to revive the region.
Baja California Gov. Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan hosted a meeting Monday at an upscale coastal development in Tijuana attended by Mexican tourism secretary Rodolfo Elizondo Torres and the governors of Sonora, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. The governors of Chihuahua and Coahuila sent representatives. Over the next two months, the states agreed to draw up a plan outlining measures to reverse the tourism decline.
While tourism across Mexico is up more than 8 percent since last year, border states have seen declining numbers of U.S. tourists, due to congested border crossings, reports of crime and other factors. The Colegio de la Frontera Norte, a Tijuana-based think tank, estimates some $2.5 billion in potential revenues are lost each year as a result of bottlenecks along the northern border.

IN ORG.
Zach Walker got his first donated kidney from his grandfather 14 years ago, and now his mother said that when her son needs a new kidney, she's ready to donate one of hers.

In 1994, E. coli poisoning destroyed Walker's kidneys when he was just 2 years old.

Soon after his illness, he received a kidney from his grandpa, and while living with a transplant can be challenging, Walker said he feels lucky to be living a quality life.

For Walker, life has had its ups and downs, but he said living with only one kidney hasn't really held him back except for some sports.

"Football is a big one for me. I've always wanted to skydive, but they tell me I can't do it," Walker said.

When E. coli destroyed his kidneys, extensive testing showed his grandfather was a match and the child's body wouldn't reject it.

Zach's grandfather, Garry Phelan, said the decision wasn't difficult at all -- "not with a grandchild it wasn't."

In fact, he would do it again if he could.

"It's really been no difficulty for me. I even got a little pride out of doing it," Phelan said.

While the kidney has performed better than expected, it's now wearing out.

"I feel weaker. I don't have as much energy as I had," Zach Walker said.

And while he can still play and work outdoors, he will need a new kidney soon.

This time his mother, Jacque, will donate one of hers.

"I worry about him a lot," Jacque Walker said.

But she's more worried about not being there to help her son if he gets sick after the operation than she is about losing her kidney.

Today on the cnn website I ead an article about a California mother of three arrested 32 years after she fled a Michigan prison on a drug conviction was charged Monday with escape. Susan LeFevre 53 is already back in Michigan serving at least 5½ years of her remaining sentence for selling heroin. If convicted of escape she could face probation or another five years in prison. LeFevre was arrested in April outside her home in an affluent area of San Diego. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, whose jurisdiction covers the suburban Detroit prison from which LeFevre escaped, said Monday that it's admirable that LeFevre made something of her life, but that she must accept responsibility for her 1976 escape. LeFevre was 19 in 1975, when she agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy and violation of drug laws in hopes of winning leniency. Instead she was given the maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years for selling about 3 grams of heroin.

“War-crimes fugitive Karadzic arrested in Serbia”
►Today I read on the newspaper that one of the world's most-wanted war-crimes fugitives for his part in the massacre of nearly 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica in 1995, was arrested yesterday in a raid that ended a 13-year hunt. Brammertz, the prosecutor of the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, hailed the arrest as an important step in bringing to justice the architect of Europe's worst massacre since World War II. He said Karadzic, 63, the Bosnian Serb president during the war between 1992 and 1995, would be transferred to The Hague in “due course.” “This is a very important day for the victims who have waited for this arrest for over a decade,” Brammertz said. “It is also an important day for international justice because it clearly demonstrates that nobody is beyond the reach of the law and that sooner or later all fugitives will be brought to justice.” A Serbian police source, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to talk to the media, said Karadzic was arrested in a Belgrade suburb after weeks of surveillance of his safe house and a tip from a foreign intelligence service.
►I agree because the police got ACCESS to arest the fugitives.
►I also agree because the law that intervined was VALID.
►I agree because the law use VALID TECHNIQUES to arest.
►I thing the most interesting fact is that the got the one that was away.

The article I read today is about bus drivers have suffered seizures, heart attacks or unconscious spells behind the wheel that led to deadly crashes on highways. hundreds of deaths and injuries blamed on drivers who blacked out, collapsed or suffered major health problems behind the wheels of vehicles that can weigh 40 tons or more. Truck drivers Truckers violating federal medical rules have been caught in every state, according to a review by the AP of 7.3 million commercial driver violations compiled by the Transportation Department in 2006, the latest data available.
I think they should get new laws.
Truck drivers shouldn’t get behind the wheel if they got health problems because the kill innocent people.
New laws.

Today in the CNN news today i read, A domestic dispute turned into a double murder-suicide Tuesday morning and a 13-year-old girl is the only survivor.

Police said the triple fatal shooting began around 7:15 a.m. on the city's northwest side at 5051 Winterberry Drive. They received calls around that time reporting a domestic disturbance.
Police said the shooter forced his ex-wife into his car. She was able to escape and return to her apartment, but police said the ex-husband forced his way back into her apartment and grabbed both her and her daughter and forced them into his car and drove off.

Police believe the woman was shot and killed in the car near the apartment complex at 59th and Georgetown.

When police spotted the vehicle, the shooter fled with the woman's body and teenager inside, heading south on I-65 to the 21st Street exit with police in pursuit.

A police officer performed at PIT maneuver at 25th and Pennsylvania, bringing the car to a stop. Police said the driver then turned the gun on himself.

The teenager did suffer a blow to her head, but it was not from a gunshot. She is being treated for the injury.

On the CNN website today I read about education in prison. Inmates are offered the opportunity to earn a certified associate of arts degree. San Quentin has California's only death chamber, with 656 inmates waiting to be executed. Lt. Sam Robinson, a 27-year veteran of San Quentin, gave a tour of 27 vocational programs run by about 3,000 volunteers as part of the Prison University Project, a nonprofit education program that offers many black men an opportunity to earn an associate of arts degree. It helps give those eligible for parole the intellectual tools to compete in a vastly changing job market. Advocates say that many black men imprisoned across America, particularly nonviolent drug-related offenders, have enormous potential to become productive, law-abiding members of society through higher education in prison. I think that’s a good opportunity for prisoners to receive a second chance. I feel that the education in prison would allow inmates to stay focus and make time go by a little faster. Prisoners should be grateful for that opportunity, because when they get out, they could have a better chance at life with an education.

the article I read today is about an actor getting arrested in British. The actor was none other than Bale in other words batman. British media had reported that Bale's mother and sister complained they were assaulted by the 34-year-old actor at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of his latest film, "The Dark Knight."
The women made the allegation at a local police station in southern England on Monday, Britain's Press Association news agency said. Asked whether Bale had been arrested, a police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."

Today I read about Darryl Layne Norris, an inmate at Waller County 26 year old inmate, hatched an escape plan to literally slip out of the Waller County Jail early Saturday morning. Investigators believe Norris intentionally lost sufficient weight over the past three months so he could fit between the one foot wide air vent in his cell. When Norris was arrested he weighed 160 pounds. Waller County Sheriff Randy Smith estimates Norris lost nearly 30 pounds to fit through that vent. Although Norris shared a cell with approximately five other inmates, he was the only one who escaped. Norris is described as a white male with reddish blonde hair, hazel eyes and is six feet tall. He has tattoos on his chest, arms and legs.
Reflection- I think that’s pretty crazy how he escaped from from the air vent but now they have to have to have better security.

Today in the union tribune, I read that Batman star Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday over allegations of assaulting his mother and sister, police and British media said. "Dark Knight" star Christian Bale pictured in London Sunday ahead of the movie's European premiere British media had reported that Bale's mother and sister complained they were assaulted by the 34-year-old actor at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of his latest film, "The Dark Knight.“ The women made the allegation at a local police station in southern England on Monday, Britain's Press Association news agency said. Asked whether Bale had been arrested, a police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault.“ He said the man was still in custody but gave no further details. The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity because force policy did not authorize him to be identified. British police do not name suspects before they are formally charged. U.S.-based representatives for Bale didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. Repeated phone calls to Bale's London representative went unanswered. The Sun newspaper said police didn't question the actor Monday because they didn't want to interfere with the premiere of the movie.

girls murdered

Two girls in Oklahoma were murdered. Police are investigating the crime . Yet it seems that the shooting of these two girls was random. Police received a call from one of the girl’s grandmother at about 5:30pm saying that she had found the bodies of the two girls dumped in a ditch near her home. Police arrived and they found both girls laying dead on the ground. They were five feet apart and had been shot with two different guns. This leads police to believe that there were two shooters involved in the murders. All in all it is a very sad story. Police have just released tapes of the grandmother’s 911 phone call in hopes of appealing someone into giving police some leads. There have been calls with tips from all over even as far as California, yet some of these calls have proven fruitless. Police are still hoping for someone’s cooperation that will lead them into breaking the case.
