Siblings Held for Ransom by Human Smugglers are Rescued
on the news today border patrol under cover agents rescued two kids after being held captive by human smugglers in a chula vista hotel. the parents of the children were asked to pay back 7000 dlls to have their children returned back to them after the parents tired and giving up on crossing the border. the parents were unable to pay and they decided to report to the authorities what was going on. the border patrol agents set up a trap and supposely family members were going to take them the money but they caught them ion the scene.
In my opinion in was good that they caught them because why would smugglers want to have kids with them if they arre doing business somewere else.
“Hazy, hazy Games ”
►Today I read on the newspaper that The skies were clear and blue all weekend in this city of 17.4 million, and officials from the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau were beaming, almost smug. On July 20, they had instituted unprecedented measures to reduce the city's infamous pollution, ordering half of the city's 3.3 million cars off the road as only a totalitarian government can, idling hundreds of factories, steel mills, coal plants, foundries, the Yanshan Petrochemical Co., the Shougang Steel Group, No. 27 Locomotive Factory, even a ferromagnesium smelter in neighboring Tianjin. Then the weather shifted. The front that brought wind and rain from the north, from largely unpopulated Mongolia, was replaced by a high pressure system that raised temperatures and lowered wind speeds. By Sunday afternoon, the mountains that rim Beijing had become hazy outlines. By yesterday morning, buildings seven blocks away were no longer visible. Then buildings six blocks away – hulking, 40-story skyscrapers – disappeared. Then structures five and four and three blocks away were swallowed, one after another, by the milky, soupy air. The officials from Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau probably wish they could disappear, too.
►I don’t agree because the Chinese people do not CONFER.
►I also don’t agree because there is no DEBATE.
►I don’t agree because CIVILIANS are affected too.
►I think the most interesting fact is that this cities are all polluted.
- The San Diego Union Tribune
- Hazy, hazy games
- The article that I read today was about the Olympics. This years summer Olympics will start on the 8th of August. They will be held in china’s city of Beijing. The article focused on the pollution of China and what the Chinese will do to better the conditions. Beijing’s smog czar stated that they can guarantee good air quality during the games during a confer with international journalists. To help better the conditions they ordered half of the civil societies' 3.3 million cars off the road. The officials from Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau are stressed because many people are debating that it is not safe for the athletes to compete in those conditions.
- One interesting fact that I learned is that despite China’s efforts, mother nature has kept Beijing ‘s skies thick with smog. I think that it is pretty unsafe to compete in these conditions. I say this because just by looking at pictures you can tell that it is very polluted.
Today in the union tribune, I read that Lou Teicher, one half of a duo that produced and performed popular theatrical recordings of big Hollywood movie themes, has died. He was 83. Teicher died Sunday of heart failure at his summer home in North Carolina, CONFERRED by his manager, Scott W. Smith. Teicher and Art Ferrante were first dubbed The Movie Theme Team in 1961, acclaimed for their rapid fire twin-piano and orchestral performances. Together they performed without DEBATE theatrical recordings of themes from such movies as The Apartment, Exodus, and Tonight from West Side Story. The duo also hit the Top Ten with their version of the Midnight Cowboy theme in 1970. During their four decades performing together, Teicher and Ferrante recorded for Columbia Records, ABC Records and United Artists Records before creating their own label in 1983, Avant-Garde Records. They recorded more than 150 albums and dozens of singles, selling more than 88 million records worldwide and earning 22 gold and platinum records. The duo made more than 200 television appearances, and were guests of Ed Sullivan, Dick Clark and Johnny Carson, among others.
I remember exodus from when I was smaller by Teicher and Ferrante. I just downloaded it on Saturday for my dad who wanted it on his iPod. Such a big tragedy to a great guy.
Today I read about 2 drivers arrested after 3 million dollars in pot was found. Two Mexican truck drives were jailed after trying to smuggle nearly 3 million dollars worth of marijuana into the united states. 32 year old Mexican citizen drove into the Otay Mesa port of entry about 3:30pm Friday in a semi-truck tractor without a trailor a drug sniffing dog helped officers find 10 packages of marijuana weighing 350 pounds. About 6:30 the same day officers found an anomaly in the front wall of an empty big rig trailer officers probed the wall and made a puncture they pulled out 42 packages of marijuana weighing 621 pounds.
Interesting Facts-They were both U.S. citizens.
My Opinion- I think that they should not have to do a lot of time because I don’t think that is a big crime.
Today I read in the union tribune about JetBlue Civil Passengers are going to be paying $7 for reusable pillow and blanket set. Coffee and tea and now pillows JetBlue Airways said yesterday that it planned to begin charging for pillow and blanket sets for flights of 2 hours or more. Buying the sets will be the only option for airline slumberers who do not take their own pillows and blankets no longer will be distributed free. Last week U.S. airways began charging $1 for coffee and tea and 2$ for bottled water and soft drinks, a step already taken by some European Carriers.
Reflection- they should have conferred with other people see what they thought about the idea.
Interesting fact- Passengers are going to be paying $7 for reusable pillow and blanket set.
Today in the union tribune I read an article about an attack on police in china but some say it was an act of terrorism. An attack that left 16 police officers dead and 16 others injured yesterday. The two men were arrested after the attack were members of the ethnic Uighur minority. This incident followed the release of a video last month which the Turkistan Islamic party threatened attacks during the Olympic games. Another attack was an assailant that rammed a truck into a crowd of 70 border police officers around 8 A.M yesterday as they were jogging. After the truck slammed into an electrical pole the assailant leaped out and atempted to throw a homemade bomb but the device detonated early blowing off his arm.
Today in the Union Tribute i read, Heath Ledger had an accidental overdose death. They think that Mary-Kate Olsen knows something about it because they are good friends but she said she want immunity or she wont talk.Olsen's lawyer has twice refused request to have her sit down with investigators probing the actor's death this year, because the investigation has not been concluded. Officials confirm a report that Olsen, a close friend of Ledger, wants a promise of immunity before she speaks to the drug Enforcement Administration.
REFLECTION:I think that they should just give her the immunity. Just give it t her or else shes not going to talk, obviously she knows something that has to do with his death so give her what she wants and she give u the information she has that what i think.
Wordz from Shannon
What I learned about the article that I read today was that a man got shot and drove himself to a confer hospital. He was near 16th and G Street write when a dark four door civil car drove by with a 25year old bald Latino started to shoot at him. But the victims wounds were not that fatal, and gang detectives are now investigating this crime since they say it was gang related debate.
In the news paper today I read about two children rescued in ransom attempt. After U.S. Border Patrol agents twice stopped their efforts to enter the country illegally south of the Imperial Beach, a Mexican couple decided to just go back home. But their young children were already across the border, and the smugglers who had taken them were asking for 7,000 to get them back. When the parents said they couldn’t come up with the money, a smuggler told them “ there were others that would,” according to federal agents who rescued the girls late Thursday. Agents posed as relatives of the children, a 2 year old girl and a 3 year old boy, arranged a drop-off at a Chula Vista hotel, then arrested two sisters involved in the smuggling, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.
