Article; Ex-City Officials Charged With Fraud
Summary; This morning’s blog is based on a recent incident that took place with bond investors and Wall Street analysts. They were charged with fraud for borrowing $262 million in 2002 and 2003. The Securities and Exchange Commission accused a group that included former City Manager for recklessly omitting details of ballooning pension and retiree health obligations in five bond offerings. It was first discovered by the San Diego Union Tribune in February 2004 that they had ruined San Diego’s financial standing and wrecked their ability to borrow money at historically low rates for badly needed projects. Now the city is having to pay penalties in return. There were 50 officials involved but only one had to pay the crime, Thomas Saiz. He was fined $15,000 in December. The new civil charges in the investigation could take years to prosecute.
Reflection; I find it hard to believe that officials could get away with such an act. But then again this all took place six years ago.
Interesting Fact; The city has already paid $6.8 million in pension.
♥ The article I read this morning was about an accident that happened in the state of Ohio. An 11 year old boy drove a bus to save his classmates. From the article that I read it said that the bus driver stopped at a gas station to put gas on the bus when the bus started to roll by it self. The 11 year old boy thought fast and jumped on the wheel and tried to pull the emergency brakes but it didn’t work. After he tried to pull the brakes and he noticed that the bus didn’t stop he then just thought about grabbing the wheel. 15 children that were on the bus were injured. None of the injuries were serious though. The bus driver could get charged with something because it’s a law that you have to be supervising the bus at all times especially if there is students aboard. There was kindergartners to 7th graders aboard on the bus.
♥ I think that what the bus driver did was wrong. I hope that he doesn’t get punished to bad. Hopefully he learns from this mistake and he doesn’t do it again.
♥ An interesting fact that I read was that the boy who grabbed the wheel was only eleven years old. He’s a hero.

Union Tribune: Electric Aptera plans to go far
Today I have read a short article on a car that kind of looks like an airplane but it is not. This vehicle is due in November and they say it is battery charges and can go up to 120 mile driving range. The delivery of the cars will start in November and are estimated to cost around 30,000 dollars. People want more hybrid cars which have one cylinder; these cars go up to 300 miles per gallon. This mans goal was to build a fuel efficient car so that he could drive everywhere. But he knew it was going to be hard. He had to find a way to make this happen and this had a lot to do with the shape of the car. This fluid shape had the lowest drag coefficient. There are many mothers who have children in Iraq so that when their sons or daughters come back they will not use a lot of fuel and that way they can be against Iraq in a good way. This car has also been wanted by celebrities. I think that this car looks really funny. It is kind of cute. In the paper it shows a picture of it. I like it in white. It is good that everyone is thinking about our environment. I also think that it is a good way to keep us from using all of that oil that not only hurts our environment but that way we will not support the war in Iraq
