Officials in San Francisco said that the Olympic Torch running went great. The routes being ran in the race were altered numerous amounts of time in order to “ thwart” plans set to disrupt the race by pro Tibetan separatists. Police authorities transported the torch for half the distance that the race was suppose to be. One spectator said he was very disappointed because he was not able to see the race due to the constant change in the routes being ran. Chinese state media declared the event a success, also praising the last minute route changes as a clever strategy. A pro Tibetan torchbearer decided to show her support of Tibetan’s independence from China by pulling out a small Tibetan flag that she had hidden in her shirt. She was stopped by Chinese security and San Francisco P.D The woman Marjora Carter runs a non-profit organization in New York, she was pulled out of the race and thrown into the crowd of spectators on the side of the street.
Reflection: I think its cool that the Olympic torch race did not stop because of the protests.
Reflection: Another good thing about this event is that no one was injured.
Reflection: I feel bad for the lady who was thrown out into the crowd for showing her support for Tibetan independence.
My Opinion: In my opinion I think Tibet should be independent. China should not be able to control Tibet. I think Tibet should fight for their freedom.
Woman stabbed in attack
The article I read about today was about a man who entered an apartment through an unlocked window Tuesday night and assaulted and stabbed a woman. This happened at her home in El Cajon. The attack occurred about 8:15 pm at an apartment building on East Lexington Avenue near Taft Avenue. The man had threaten the woman with a knife and tried to force her into another room. During a struggle the woman was stabbed suffering a minor injury. The woman began screaming as did her child who came out of another room and the man fled.
Interesting facts-The suspect was described as latino in his late teens to early 20’s about 5 foot 6 inches tall with a thin build.
My opinion-I think that was scandal to try and rob a lady in front of her kid and stab her.
The article I read today is about Alpine 42 school districts now charge families to take their children to and from school. The school board voted last night to impose bus fees to help balance next year’s budget. Encinitas will raise the cost of an annual bus pass from $400 per student the Fallbrook union high school district is going to raise the cost of its annual bus passes from $180 to $270. the San Diego Unified School District is the largest school system in the country. The San Marcos school district charges to transport kindergarten through- eighth-grade students but its considering eliminating the service which would save the district more than $1 million , officials said.
My reflection is they should not charge that much just to get a ride to school.
The school should lower their prices.
My opinion is they should lower the prices just for bus passes.
Today in the union tribune, I read that Yahoo is finally taking Microsoft's offer for 44.6 billion dollars. They think that combining Yahoo, MSN (Microsoft), and MySpace (news corp.) would create a behemoth that would upend the internet’s landscape. It is possible that news corp. still could participate in a deal with Yahoo. Though the disclosure of its talks with Microsoft might complicate that relationship.
=Teens charged with cop murder=
This morning In the news paper I read about some teens. These teens are being charged for the killing of a police officer last year. The two men were 18 $ 19 years old and waiting for trial. They are facing life without parole if they are charged with the crime. Last year in Oceanside the teens were drinking at a park. This is when they shot at the officer in a traffic stop killed him. They have estimated that the trial will last two months . A hearing of motions for the trial is scheduled for Aug. 18. Police say that the shooting was gang related.
=The cops should wear bullet proof vests to protect their life.
=I think that life without parole is too much they should get at least 35 with possibility of parole.
=The suspects were under the influence of alcohol and they were under age, we should find a way to monitor who ends up with the alcohol.
=The teens s the cops at about 386 feet away.

Union Tribune: Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to add 140 workers to bank-failure division as crisis deepens
Today I have read in the paper that in Washington they are increasing their staff by 60 percent. This increase is due to the fact that they are having trouble in the financial institutions. They would like to add at least 140 workers so that they can handle bank failures. There have been five bank failures since 2007. The last failure was on 1990-1991 when more than 502 banks failed in three years. The FDIC provides insurance for at least $100,000. There are 76 banks in the FDIC’s problem list. Since 1981 total number of failure per year average about 13 percent of the number of institutions that started on the year of the agency list of banks with weak financial conditions. I think that it is bad that they are having trouble financially but who isn’t now a days. I think that it is a good idea that they are hiring people to check on the problem. They need to look at it deeply and figure out a way that they can fix there problems.
